Main Items of the Balance of Payments

The classification of the Debit and Credit sides of the Balance of Payment had been given by Prof. R. F. Harrod in his book International Economics.

Credit Debit
1. Exportation of goods and services:
  1. Visible’ export of goods,
  2. Freight receipts
  3. Receipt for insurance services etc.
  4. interest  and profits on the domestic capital invested abroad.,
 1. Importation of goods and services :
  1. visible imports of goods,
  2. freight payments,
  3. payments of insurance services etc.
  4. Interest and profits on foreign capital invested in country.

  1. Loans from the outer world.
  2. repayments of the loans by the outer world
 2.
  1. Loans to the outer worlds.
  2. Repayments of loans to the outer world
3. Gifts including indemnity payments made by outer world. 3. Gifts including indemnity payments made to outer world.
4.
  1. Expenditure by tourists from abroad.
  2. Money brought by immigrants coming into the country.
 4.
  1. Expenditure by tourists gone abroad.
  2. Money taken by immigrants leaving the country.
