Write a short note on narrative technique of a novel.
A novel is an elaborated long story. It has many characters, places and actions.
In order to make a good narrative a novelish should must follow followings steps –
1. Plot Construction: Plot construction is the first and basic function of a novel. A novelist always has his own idea about the plot construction. A plot of a novel should be well knit, well blended by main and sub-plots, plot should be symmetrical. There must be sequence of events. According to theme, a novelist puts dramatic effect also. He keeps a good hormony between characters and actions. He laso keeps his theme united.
2. Characterisation : Characterisation is the most important of a novel. Characters should be according to theme and requirement of story. If characters are more than required, there will be a great problem for the novelist to keep them in order.
3. Self-detachment: A novelist should keep himself away from the theme, plot, story and characters. If he involves himself with these, a novel cannot become a good narration. In this regard. Jane Austen is one of those novelists who Could keep themselves away from above aspects of a novel.
4. Action: A novelist should keep the action of novel unite, intact and in order. If actions are not unite or in order the novel will not be a good narrative. So, in order to make it a good narrative, it is essential that actions of a novel should logically in order.
5. Dialogues and Soliloquy: Dialogues and soliloquies also play a very significant role in the narration of a novel. So a novelist should take care of dialogues and soliloquies of his novel. These should be appropriate and as per the requirement of theme, action and situation of the novel.
In view of the above, it may be said that the narrative technique is used in novel, makes it effective, impressive and interesting. In this regard ‘pride and Prejudice’ is one of the most remarkable novel.
It is generally thought that coincidences and not good for the narration of a good novel. But Jane Austen has used coincidences very artfully and craft fully for the development of the plot. Sometimes coincidences have become narrative themselves.
Summing up, it may be said that a good narrative novel always has a well knitted plot, well characterized story, appropriate action and dialogues, symmetrical story harmonious plots and action and soon.
