Introduction

‘News’ has four letters. These four letters stand for four directions-Noth, East, West, South. Reports from four directions are given the name ‘News’. The paper on which reports are printed is called ‘newspaper’.

Advantages of Newspaper

Newspaper has its own advantages. The main advantages are as under :

1. Supply mental food. From the newspapers we come to know what is going on in the world. They increase our general knowledge. They supply food to our hungry mind.

2. Means of advertisement. Newspapers are good means of advertisement. They help the business. There are news about the manufactured articles, quotations of prices and rates of commodities. We get all types of information from them social, political, commercial and educational. There is one maga zine section in them. In this section there is the list of the latest books. This section is very useful for the students. They get the books of their choice. Business concerns give their advertise ments. There are advertisements of medicine. The sick people may buy medicines for their use.

3. Matrimonials. There are matrimonials in the newspa pers. These news help people to solve the problem of finding the suitable matches. People select matches of their choice by personal contact.

4. Wants and Situation column. A newspaper is very important for unemployed and under employed persons. “Wants’ are given on the second page of the newspaper. The unem ployed persons come to know about the vacancies. They apply for the posts suitable to them.

5. Lost and Found column. There is one column “Lost and Found’. The persons and things lost are advertised in this column.

6. Sale-purchase of proptery. Moveable and immoveable properties, motor and other things for sale are advertised. The needy people purchase them.

7. Children corner. Children corner gives useful and interesting sotries, tit-bits and moral tables. they are good mental food children.

8. Women’s Section. This section is very useful for women. It contains many household problems. There are sometimes the methods of preparing special dishes or some sort of sweaters.

9. Knowledge of outside world. From newspapers we come to there is any natural calamity such as, earthquakes, famine or country show sympathy and help the people in trouble. Now-a-days no country can exist without the help of the other countries.

Conclusion

In India, the future of newspaper is very bright as the reading public would grow more and more.

Vocabulary

Directions- quarters, Commodities- goods, वस्तुएँ। Manufactured- produced, निर्मित किये हुए। Quotation- current price, Contact- intimacy, Immovable- which cannot be moved, Concerns- organizations, Household- domestic, Calamity- adversity.
