Essay On SCHOOL HOLIDAY ON A RAINY DAY

Introduction

A holiday is a day of great joy. The holiday on a rainy day is more delightful because it is unexpected. This year we had only one rainy day. But on the night of 17th of August it began to rain. The morning came but the rain did not stop.

On the way to School

At 8 o’clock I found that the rain slowed down. So I put on my clothes and started for the school with my books. On the way I met several other boys of my class. In the mean time it began to rain heavily again. Some of the boys had no umbrellas. So two or three of them came under one umbrella. The result was that we could not save ourselves and by the time we reached the school, we had become completely wet. Our books also had been spoiled.

The Attendance

At the school I found that the attendance of boys was very thin. There not more than only six or seven boys in every class. They had all assembled near the hall and were talking to the teachers about the holiday. The teachers also were wet. But they had to come in spite of the rains. The boys coming from distant villages were all absent.

The Holiday

The teachers then asked us to go to the Principal for a holiday. We went in a group. He saw water falling from our clothes. He asked us to wait. Then he called some of the teachers and consulted them. Soon after the peon rang the bell continuously and we shouted with joy for we knew that it was a holiday.

The Mango Picnic

Now instead of returning home I with seven or eight boys of my class decided to go to the garden nearby and have a mango picnic. I liked the proposal and went with them. The gardener became nervous to see so many boys because he thought that we would do harm to the garden. But I called him and told him that he need not fear. I asked him to supply good mangoes. He gave us mangoes. We began to eat them. Really, they were very sweet and juicy. We ate the mangoes and were much pleased.

Conclusion

We left the garden. We had gone only a few metres when it began to rain again. We took shelter in a small hut. In half an hour the rain stopped. We returned home talking and laughing.

Delightful- joyful, हर्षपूर्ण Unexpected- unforeseen, Lighter- of lesser weight, Umbrella- a parasol, Attendance- presence, Thin- meagre; of little thickness, कम Assembled- brought together, इकट्ठे हो गए। Distant- far off, Consulted- sought counsel, Nearby- closely, Proposal- an offer, Nervous- uneasy, Juicy- containing sap.
